PROBLEM
On April 25, 2009, we had our 2003 F-150 XLT diagnosed by Earnhardt Ford service dealer to check out
the following symptoms: oil level pressure gauge was dropping, and the oil pressure gauge light turned on.
DIAGNOSIS
Engine was "diagnosed" by Earnhardt Ford mechanic FRANK PEREZ LIC # 7973.
After checking the engine with his diagnostic tools, he determined that:
"...ENGINE HAS INTERNAL PROBLEM, WILL REQUIRE TEAR DOWN AND INSPECTION TO ISOLATE ROOT CAUSE!!!!"
We asked the Service Advisor, BILL FAUCETT, at Earnhardt Ford how much this would cost?
He said: "...$5,000.00 to $8,000.00."
SOLUTION
We drove our truck to the Napa Auto Parts store and had the technician determine that the problem was
low engine oil level. They put in two quarts, and the problem has never re-occurred again.
Total cost to fix the problem: $50.00.
FORD'S RESPONSE
On September 19, 2010, we filed a formal complaint against Earnhardt Ford with the Ford Motor Company,
Customer Service Division. Christopher Willis of the Ford Motor Company, Customer Relationship Center
replied in a letter and assured us that: "...Our Regional Office personnel will contact you only
if they require additional information..."
Apparently, no one needed "additional" information since no one called from Ford or Earnhardt Ford.
COMPLAINT
We ended our formal complaint to Ford with:
"It is this kind of hypocritical, un-ethical, freaking thievery mindset that undermines the
'credibility' of automobile manufacturers and dealership owners."
One has to wonder how many other un-suspecting Ford customers have been ripped off by Ford dealers
such as Earnhardt Ford. Let's not forget who certifies the Ford dealer mechanics...
